New Haven finished their first Division I season with a victory over the Mercyhurst University Lakers. With the win, the Chargers finished the season with a 5-5-6 overall record and a .500 win percentage.
Junior midfielder Andres Lazos took the win for New Haven with a last-minute goal 86 minutes into the game, breaking the tie and leading the Chargers to their final victory of the 2025 season. Lazo’s goal was assisted by senior defender Daniel Ehlin. Lazo totaled two shots on goal, along with sophomore midfielder Luke Fiscella, who also added two.
Chargers’ goalkeeper Alessandro Bizzini finished with three saves and earned his fifth shutout of the season, and his third in a row. Bizzini has not allowed a goal since Oct. 23 in their match against Le Moyne College and finished the season with a 1.26 goals against average.
New Haven also took on the Chicago State University Cougars earlier in the week on Thursday, coming out with a 0-0 tie.
The Chargers travelled to Chicago for their final road game of the season. Neither team could find the back of the net, ending the match at 0-0. Freshman defender Guilherme Meira added two shots and one shot on goal, with junior forward Andrew Buchanan adding one shot and one shot on goal. Fiscella also added one shot and one shot on goal. Bizzini finished with three saves, hitting the 50-save mark on the season.
After the final games of the season, the men’s soccer team finished with an overall record of 5-5-6 and 3-2-3 in conference play. For more information, visit NewHavenChargers.com.
