The Chargers’ softball team continued its late-season schedule with a three-game stretch against the Yale Bulldogs and the Stonehill Skyhawks, finishing the week with a split of results as the regular season nears its end. The Chargers faced a mix of non-conference and out-of-conference competition, closing the stretch with one win and two losses, while continuing to battle through the final portion of the 2026 schedule.
The stretch opened on April 22 against the Yale Bulldogs where the Chargers lost, 9-6. New Haven finished with seven hits and six runs, while Yale totaled nine hits and nine runs. The Bulldogs built an early lead with three runs in the first inning, one in the second and two in the third allowing them to go up, 6–1. The Chargers responded in the third inning with an RBI single from Jess Petit, with Bri Pellicone scoring. In the fourth inning, New Haven scored four runs and tied the game at 6–6, highlighted by RBI contributions from Gianna Haniff, Pellicone and Brianna Trueman.
Offensively, Pellicone went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Petit added two hits and an RBI. Trueman recorded a hit and an RBI, and Haniff drove in two runs. The Chargers finished with two doubles in the game. On the mound, New Haven used multiple pitchers, allowing Yale to score three runs in the fifth inning, resulting in them retaking the lead and securing the win.
Two days later, on April 25, the Chargers faced the Stonehill Skyhawks which resulted in a 5–2 loss. New Haven recorded seven hits and two runs, while the Skyhawks totaled nine hits and five runs. Stonehill scored in the fourth inning and broke the game open with four runs in the fifth, capitalizing on defensive miscues. The Chargers were held scoreless through five innings before breaking through in the sixth.
Bella Chenet provided the key hit of the game. She delivered a 2-RBI single in the sixth inning which brought in Allison Murai and Marzia Johnson. Haniff and Kylie Thorpe each added two hits, accounting for a large portion of New Haven’s offense. Despite the late push, Stonehill’s pitching held the Chargers scoreless in the final frame to close out the game.
New Haven finished the series on April 26 with an 8–4 win over Stonehill. The Chargers recorded nine hits and eight runs, while Stonehill finished with nine hits and four runs. New Haven scored in four separate innings, including a 4-run third inning that shifted control of the game. The Chargers added runs again in the fifth inning to extend the lead.
Offensively, Chenet finished with a triple and three RBI, while Trueman went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Emily Ricci also added a hit and an RBI, and Petit contributed an RBI sacrifice fly. Pellicone and Haniff each added hits as part of a balanced lineup effort. In the circle, New Haven used multiple pitchers to combine for the win, limiting Stonehill after the third inning.
