The New Haven Chargers have completed their first spring season competing in Division I NEC.
The men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in multiple invitationals, have continuously broken program records and have been constant podium finishers throughout the season. For the first time in over ten years, the women’s team won the 4×400 meter relay in the CTC section at the Penn Relays. The men’s NEC Championship is May 2 and 3, followed by the New England Championship on May 7 and 9. The women’s NEC Championship is May 7 and 9.
The women’s golf team finished second in the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational and placed 11th in the NEC Championship. The men’s golf team competed in three tournaments and tied in sixth place at the Roar-EE Invitational. Hermann Gavilan tied for seventh place at the NEC Championship.
After finishing the fall season undefeated, the tennis team concluded their season with an overall record of 9-9 and 3-1 in conference play. The Chargers endured a four-game losing streak but defeated the Queens College Knights 4-3 to finish their season.
Under new head coach Kathelene Kim Green, the women’s lacrosse team finished with a .444 percentage and an overall record of 5-9. The Chargers started their season strong with a 10-7 win over Sacred Heart University and finished their time in Kathy Zolad Stadium with a dominant 17-11 senior day win over cross-state rival, Central Connecticut State University. The team traveled to face Delaware State University this past weekend and finished their season with a 19-7 win over the Hornets.
The baseball team currently has an overall record of 8-27 and 7-14 in conference play. The Chargers faced off against larger opponents University of Missouri and Texas Christian University to begin their season. New Haven did not sweep any competitors during their series but had notable wins against the University of Bridgeport where they defeated the Purple Knights 12-4 and Norfolk State University where the Chargers won 15-4 against the Spartans. The baseball team still has multiple games left but will conclude the season with a three-game series against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks.
The softball team stands at 10-33 overall and 8-16 in conference play. The Chargers won two out of three games in their series against Fairleigh Dickinson and Mercyhurst University. New Haven will host Holy Cross University for a doubleheader on Wednesday to conclude the season.
New Haven Athletics has completed their first year as a Division I program and will return in the fall.
