The Chargers hit the road this past Thursday to take on the Long Island University (LIU) Sharks. It was a close game, but New Haven fell short by one goal, 2-1.
The Sharks came out strong to start the game, scoring within the first eight minutes of the match. The goal was credited to LIU’s Brooklyn Menard, with the assist from Kaylie Govoni. Despite the early goal, New Haven did not back down and tied the game with a goal from junior forward Kelsey Landers, her first of the season, assisted by junior midfielder Lola Wood.
The Chargers went into the second half tied at 1-1 with the Sharks and looked to obtain their first win of the season. However, in the 59th minute, LIU’s Grace Hennig sent one into the back of the net, with the assist from Izzy Stein. The goal would be the final of the game, as New Haven was unable to muster a comeback.
Senior goalkeeper, Caitlin Daley, recorded five saves in goal for the Chargers. New Haven totaled four shots in the match, while the Sharks ended with 18.
