The Chargers faced the Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) Knights on Thursday in Teaneck, New Jersey, and lost 1-0.
It was a close battle between the Chargers and the Knights, with both teams switching off possession throughout the first half. While neither team found the net in the first half, the Knights held the advantage going into the second, with eight shots compared to New Haven’s one.
The second half of the match went scoreless until the last 10 minutes, when FDU’s Jamie Barbero sent one in to break the tie. With little time left, the Chargers were unable to come back and took their second loss of the season.
In total, New Haven had four shots on the day while FDU had 12. Chargers’ goalkeeper Alessandro Bizzini made seven saves at goal. New Haven also tallied 10 fouls as a team, compared to the Knights’ five.
The Chargers also faced off against the Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) Blue Devils and won, 2-1. CCSU struck first with a goal from Jaran Lilleholt Klevberg but New Haven’s Lukian Lawro tied up the game with a goal off an assist from Joao Pires. The Chargers’ Andrew Buchanan secured the winning goal with an assist from Pires and Filipe Lemos. New Haven finished the game with a total of nine shot attempts, five being on goal, while CCSU had eight and two at goal. The Chargers goalkeeper, Alessandro Bizzini, had three saves during 90 minutes of play.
After the loss, the Chargers have an overall record of 4-2-3 and are 2-1 in the NEC. The Chargers will travel down the road to Yale University on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. match. For more information, visit NewHavenChargers.com.
