The Chargers visited the Merrimack College Warriors on Friday and dropped a close battle, 2-1.
The Warriors struck first and scored the first goal of the game about eight minutes into the first quarter. The goal came from Merrimack’s Jade Shabo and was assisted by Delaney Weiler. The remainder of the first quarter went scoreless, but the Chargers fought back in the second.
Looking to tie the game, New Haven forward Emma Beaujouan sent one into the cage unassisted early in the second quarter. The third quarter went scoreless as both teams battled to break the tie.
The score remained at 1-1 until the last minute of the game, when the Warriors’ Weiler sent in the winning goal, unassisted. The Chargers totaled a season-high five shots on goal, while the Warriors ended with nine. New Haven goalkeeper Anne Marie Martin also made seven saves in goal for the Chargers.
New Haven also faced off against the Fairfield University Stags but lost, 11-0. The Chargers were unable to take any shot attempts while the stags totaled 37, 25 on goal. New Haven’s goalkeeper, Martin, had 14 saves during 60 minutes of play.
The Chargers are now 0-10 overall and 0-5 in the NEC. New Haven will travel to Stonehill College to take on the Skyhawks on Friday, Oct. 17. For more information, visit www.newhavenchargers.com.
