The Driver Era and Jay Sean will be the headlining artists for this year’s Spring Weekend concert, which is organized by the Student Committee of Programming Events (SCOPE).
The Driver Era is a musical duo consisting of brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch, both of whom are also former members of the disbanded band, R5. Ross Lynch is also a former Disney star, famous for his role as Austin Moon in sitcom “Austin & Ally.” Jay Sean, born Kamaljit Singh Jhooti, is a British R&B singer, known for singles like “Down.”
The artists will perform in Friday night’s Shoreline Sounds in the Beckerman Recreational Center, and they’ll be joined in the lineup by emerging local acts, singer-songwriter Sam Menos and rock and roll band LOVETAP.
Hugh Gilroy, the bass guitarist of LOVETAP, described the opportunity to perform alongside The Driver Era as a “full circle moment.”
“[Ross Lynch] is someone I used to look up to as a kid like ‘I want to do that,’” said Gilroy.
He also said that he was “just happy to be included.”
The Rec Center doors will open at 5:45 p.m., with the show beginning at 6:30 p.m. Security and campus police will be present and entering students may be subject to search by the UPD.
SCOPE by the Shore’s Spring Weekend will continue into Saturday with SCOPE by the Pier, a carnival from 2-8 p.m. that will span across the Dunham parking lot, Dunham Quad, Celentano Quad, Bixler/Gerber Quad and the German Club parking lot.
Students who want to participate in the carnival must fill out a waiver beforehand.
Forensic science junior Hadleigh Sargent said she was excited for this year’s Spring Weekend and loves the yearly tradition. She said she thinks of the event as a celebration of the end of winter.
Tickets for the event are available through Eventbrite to undergraduate students and will remain available until 9 a.m. Wednesday. Tickets are limited to one per person per event. On Wednesday, SCOPE intends to offer any remaining tickets to current graduate students. Campus IDs and Eventbrite tickets are required for entry to both events.
The representatives of SCOPE could not be reached for further comment.
