With the spring semester starting and our campus welcoming new students, The Charger Bulletin would like to offer advice and resources. As this is many students’ first time away from home and navigating a new environment can be challenging, the university offers quick and easy help.
Navigate 360 is an app that keeps track of your schedule, appointments with professors, study buddy groups, and more. It is available on both Google Play and the App Store and gathers many of the available resources at the university in one place. While a lot of these same resources are available on MyCharger, Navigate has a simple layout of different resources for different issues, and helpful information such as to-dos, events, a major explorer page and more.
If you’re faced with challenges, visit the I Need Help tab on Navigate 360, represented with a waving hand. Once you click on it, you can request help regarding room changes, time management, and financial aid. If you want to work on an issue with someone, the resources tab on Navigate 360 contains a Places tab with locations on campus that offer resources in academic support, campus employment, financial and registrar services. There is also a People tab, which shows you your primary advisor, area coordinator, success advisor, academic peer mentor, and instructors, along with their contact information.
Keep in mind that Navigate 360 is run by a third party developer, so some notices may be slightly delayed. However, if you have concerns, go to a department’s physical location and manage any issues with staff directly.
Should a student be concerned about safety, the school has resources for suspicious activity and emergencies. The Livesafe App allows students to connect to the university’s campus police and quickly report emergencies, safety concerns, report accidents, and request a friend to track your walk. Other on campus resources include a police department which can be reached at (203) 932-7014 for non-emergency, and at (203) 932-7070 or 911 for emergencies..
Students looking to get more involved in events and clubs, Charger Connection is run by the school where you can find information for club meetings, tryouts, and events hosted by the university’s offices or Recognized Student Organizations(RSOs). You can also find event hosts, descriptions, and details about room capacity or tickets considering some events have limits and ticket requirements. Remember there are many campus organizations that may not appear on Charger Connection, but are open to people who are interested. The best way to find these is to speak to professors and classmates who have been attending the university longer. They can guide you to the organization’s leadership and keep you updated on how you can get involved.
For students who are on meal plans, there is the Transact eAccounts app. This app allows you to track your dining dollars balance and meal swipes. Many students swipe away when purchasing items from the C-Store or when at a food truck without realizing how many swipes or dining dollars they have left. Tracking can help you plan out what days of the week you want to eat from specific dining locations or how you want to budget your dining dollars. If you’re interested in looking at the food truck schedule for the week, visit the unewhavendining Instagram page where they post weekly updates.
While there is no way to make adjusting to university life a process without issue, knowing where to go for help when issues do arrive will streamline the process of resolving them, and make your life as a student easier to manage.
