Starting college can feel like being dropped into a new city without a map–you know adventure awaits, but it’s easy to get lost if you don’t know where to begin. The secret is, The University of New Haven already provides the tools you need to survive and thrive; you just need to know where to look.
Navigate360
One of the most essential apps for first-year students is Navigate360. Available on both the App Store and Google Play, Navigate360 organizes your class schedule, appointments and academic to-do list in one place. The app also lets you form study groups and check upcoming events. When you encounter room changes, time management challenges or financial aid concerns, the “I Need Help” tab is your go-to. Navigate360 also has a People tab listing your advisors, peer mentors and instructors with contact information. While updates in the app can sometimes run behind, it’s a strong first step before heading to the office in person.
LiveSafe
Safety is one of the top priorities, especially for students new to campus. The LiveSafe app directly connects to campus police, making it easier to report emergencies, suspicious activities or accidents. For non-emergencies, you can call campus police directly, but LiveSafe is the quickest way to get help in an urgent or uncomfortable situation.
Charger Connection & CSELO
Getting involved outside the classroom is just as important as keeping up with your academics. Charger Connection is the official platform for campus events and recognized student organizations (RSO). You’ll find information about club meetings, campus events, tryouts, volunteer opportunities and off campus trips! Each listing includes the details about the host, location, time and whether you will need tickets or RSVP space in advance. Alongside this, the Center for Student Engagement, Leadership, and Orientation (CSELO) is your hub for leadership programs, campus traditions and student involvement. If you’re looking for ways to connect with people, develop your leadership skills, or simply have fun, CSELO and Charger Connection are the places to start. Note that not every group may appear online, so chatting with professors or upperclassmen is another great way to discover smaller or informal organizations.
Center for Academic Success and Advising (CASA)
Adjusting to college academics can feel stressful and overwhelming. However, the Center for Academic Success and Advising (CASA) is here to help. CASA offers tutoring across subjects, writing support, supplemental instruction and workshops to sharpen study skills. Beyond tutoring, CASA advisors act as your personal GPS for college. They can help you map out your classes, stay on track and connect with resources if you need extra support. Using CASA early, rather than waiting until you’re overwhelmed, can make a huge difference in your first-year experience.
Here’s the truth: there is no way to make college completely stress-free, but think of these resources as your campus dream team. Navigate360 keeps your schedules organized, LiveSafe is your bodyguard, making sure you get to where you need to go safely. Charger Connection and CSELO are your social directors, plugging you into clubs and opening opportunities for networking. And when academics get tough, CASA is your guide to keep a steady course. Freshman year may feel overwhelming, but with this toolkit in your pocket, you’re not just surviving college–you’re ready to thrive in it.
