Chargers dominate the Saint Rose Golden Knights to win their second game in a row

The women’s lacrosse team beat the Saint Rose Golden Knights by a final score of 21-9 in their Saturday afternoon matchup. If you blinked during the game, you most likely missed a goal as the Chargers’ mentality was all gas and no brakes. The Chargers went on to score a season-high of 21 goals in the game and improved to a 3-3 record.

The Golden Knights scored first and took a 1-0 lead, but the Chargers answered right back and got up 2-1 early in the first half. You could feel the excitement in the air from both teams as each goal was scored. Saint Rose came back with two of their own and got up 3-2. Both sides exchanged goals back and forth to give the Golden Knights a 4-3 lead with less than ten minutes until halftime.

New Haven pulled away for a few minutes, scoring four goals in just under two minutes to make it 7-4 before Saint Rose scored two late goals to cut the Charger lead to 7-6 at the half. For every goal that the Golden Knights scored the Chargers responded with one of their own.
It felt like it was going to be back and forth for the rest of the game but the Chargers scored early and often once the second half started. They stretched their lead to five goals early in the second half and never looked back. The Blue and Gold outscored the Golden Knights 14-3 in the second half.

Each time a Charger scored the entire team’s excitement grew as every player seemed to get involved in the fun matchup. Eight different Chargers were able to find the back of the net. Sophomore Annie Aquavita had a career day, recording a career-high six goals and a pair of assists. Junior Julia Astram also tallied four goals and Junior Marina Skelly added three of her own.

A few freshmen were able to play their first collegiate minutes late in the second half due to the blowout. Freshman Olivia Tarricone scored the first goal of her collegiate career with a free-position attempt. Every fan loves offense and they were able to supply plenty of it.

The Chargers will look to continue their two-game winning streak when they head to Le Moyne College on Saturday, April 10 at 11 am. Game stats can be found on Charger Sports Network.
