Before break, the Chargers men’s basketball team extended their winning streak with a 78-47 win over the Salve Regina University Seahawks.
New Haven carried the momentum from their prior match against Vermont State University, where they defeated the Hornets, 122-51.In the match last Tuesday, the Chargers and Seahawks stood neck and neck until New Haven’s offense found a breakthrough and entered halftime with a 10-point advantage. Salve Regina struggled to erase the deficit in the second half, and their defense could not keep up with New Haven’s consistent scoring.
Guard Jabri Fitzpatrick led the Chargers with 14 points after shooting 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-6 from behind the three-point arc. Fitzpatrick also had six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Forward Stefano Faloppa finished with 12 points after shooting a perfect 1.000 from the field, three-point arc and free-throw line. Guards Teshaun Steele and Maison Adeleye added 10 and eight points, respectively. Steele had two rebounds and two steals while Adeleye finished with four rebounds and one assist.
Aside from the leading scorers, eight other Chargers put points up for New Haven. Forward Andre Pasha had eight points, four rebounds and one assist. Forward Timothy Coleman put up six points for the Chargers. Guards Najimi George, Vere Anthony and Zoumana Traore each had five points. George added two rebounds, two blocks and an assist while Anthony had two steals and Traore had a rebound.
Guard Aidan Losiewicz finished with three points and two rebounds. Forward Tristan Burth finished the game with two points after shooting 1-for-2 from the field and had five rebounds and an assist. Guard Dior Kennedy scored one point from the free-throw line and had two assists and a rebound.
Salve Regina’s Sean Seymour led the team with 18 points and three rebounds. Only six other Seahawks were able to put points on the board as they struggled to get past the Chargers’ defense.
The Chargers finished shooting 45.6% from the field while the Seahawks shot 32.7%. New Haven went 11-for-28 from the three-point arc and 15-for-25 at the free-throw line. The Chargers finished the game with 39 rebounds, 14 assists, nine steals and three blocks. New Haven had eight turnovers and committed 11 personal fouls.
After the win against the Seahawks, the Chargers hosted the Mitchell College Mariners and won, 92-69.
Guard Kheni Briggs led New Haven with 16 points while Pasha and Faloppa were right behind with 14 each. The Chargers finished the game with 60 points in the paint, 41 bench points and 16 second chance points. New Haven committed 11 turnovers and seven personal fouls. Troy Butler finished with 26 points for the Mariners while the remainder of Mitchell’s offense struggled.
The Chargers now have an overall record of 5-4 and will look to stay in the win column as they travel to Massachusetts to face the Boston College Eagles on Saturday. Tip-off is at noon and will be broadcast on ACCN | ESPN. For more information, visit NewHavenChargers.com.
