Within the next week, the university’s spring sports teams will begin their seasons and look to make history in their Division I debut. After months of preseason preparation and intense practices, the Chargers’ baseball, softball, golf, lacrosse and tennis teams are set to defend their home turf as they await a new era of competition.
The baseball team concluded their last season with an overall record of 24-20 and 12-12 in conference play. In 2025, the Chargers’ season ended in a 6-4 loss to American International College in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The Chargers will face a series of road games until their first home match against the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Mar. 13.
After finishing their last season with an overall record of 11-33, the softball team is looking to turn the page in their DI kickoff. New Haven will compete against some neighboring colleges this season including Yale University, Quinnipiac University, University of Connecticut, Fairfield University and Central Connecticut State University. The Chargers will host their first game on Mar. 11 against the Manhattan University Jaspers.
Having already made their Division I debut in the fall, the men’s and women’s golf teams will be back in action this spring. The men’s golf team will compete in the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational on Mar. 30 at University Place, Wash. The women’s team will compete in the Battle at the Beach in Pawley’s Island S.C. on Feb. 21.
After falling short in the Northeast 10 Quarterfinal Championship, the lacrosse team is ready to face some new competitors while welcoming a new coaching staff. Amidst their transition to DI, the team welcomed Kathelene Kim Green as their new head coach, Isabelle Eldridge as the assistant coach and former player Gianna Caprioli as the graduate assistant coach. The Chargers will play their first game on Wednesday when they host the Sacred Heart University Pioneers at Kathy Zolad Stadium. New Haven will face a series of NEC competitors beginning on Mar. 14 against Mercyhurst University.
After finishing the fall season with an undefeated 4-0 record, the tennis team has begun their spring season and currently stands 1-1 after defeating Merrimack College and falling short to Hofstra University.
