Wow! Can you believe that it has been two weeks since the last newspaper? Well even though the paper took a break, SCOPE didn’t; that’s right, we kept the events coming, and boy were there a lot of them. All the committees were busy planning and executing events; I don’t think I have ever seen so many people work so hard.
Let’s start with Film Committee. The days off really through off their schedule, but they still showed movies and filled students stomachs with delicious snacks. So the movie two weeks ago was Bad Teacher, and as a special Fall Break treat instead of having the movie in the Café, like they usually do, they co-sponsored with Weekend Programming and had it in the Quad. It was great seeing the movie on the big screen and getting that feel of a movie in the park. And to top off the night, there was popcorn! It was delicious and made the night complete.
This past week’s movie could only be shown once because of the break, but everyone took advantage of the showing. Over one hundred students showed up to see Horrible Bosses and boy was it worth it. Not only was the movie hilarious, but Film had ice cream. That’s right you heard me ICE CREAM! Chocolate and vanilla with three choices for toppings were available, and students were in line before the tops were off. Great movies and delicious snacks, and there is still more to come. This Friday, October 21 in Bartels Café at 9:00 p.m., Film will be showing the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II and will be having a Pre-Party before hand with wand making, psychics, and more!
Comedy and Lecture Committee has been busy too and man was there event great! On Thursday, October 13 they had Comedian Sword Swallower Dan Meyer appear in the German Club, and it was such a good show. First the performer had to hypnotize himself so that he wouldn’t gag when he put the sword down his throat. Then he started what he does best, swallowing swords. Of course he had to play a trick on the audience and swallow a fake sword first; it wouldn’t have been funny if he didn’t. And then the real stuff came; you should have seen the shock on students faces! They couldn’t believe what he was doing. It was an amazing show, definitely worth the shock and awe! And Comedy and Lecture has more shock and awe coming this week with a co-sponsorship with Victimology Club for The Stacey Lannert Story in Dodds Theater at 7:30 p.m.. She is coming to talk about her story of sexual abuse and hopefully help some students with their problems.
Day Programming was also working hard putting on The Butt Sketch and Caracturists event on Monday. If you walked by the Programming Space on Monday after 12:30 p.m. you would have seen a mob of students in line waiting to get their butt sketched or their face, front, and back. The artists were amazing! They did a really great job on all the drawings of students and the students loved them. Day Programming is bringing more fun next week with Stuff-A-Bear with Costumes which will be in the Programming Space from 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.; come get a Halloween buddy!
Weekend Programming worked hard all weekend putting on some great events. On Friday there was Laser scribe pens and Photo Whiteboards, and the students loved it. They were able to get their name or favorite saying on a pen, which will help get everybody good grades I hope. And then students got their picture taken with friends and had it put onto a whiteboard. It was really cool; students were drawing funny faces on their friends the rest of the night. On Saturday, we took a trip to Lyman Orchards. Students had a great time picking apples and running through the corn maze and getting lost. It was a fun time for all, and there is more fun coming this weekend. On Friday, October 21 in the Programming Space, the Go Green event will be going on starting at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 22, Pumpkin Painting in the Programming Space at 6:00 p.m. And on Sunday, October 23, we will be walking in the Breast Cancer Walk.
So we agree that SCOPE has been busy. And there are more events to come!
