Welcome Week to Soar Above Expectations with Over $40,000 Budget

Zack Rosen

Welcome Week 2009 is in full-swing! There are lots of events to check out, and all are certain to entertain! For weeks now, the Welcome Week Planning Committee has been meeting to plan the best events, comedians, and food for UNH students! Best part? It’s open to all students, and it’s totally free!

These past few weeks have been beyond hectic for Director of Student Activities Greg “Grego” Overend and Assistant Director of Student Activities Lisa Saverese. Along with representatives from Residential Life, Athletics, the Dean of Students’ Office, Student Activities, and even The Charger Bulletin, both students and administration have worked incredibly hard to make this Welcome Week the best one yet. Keep reading to find out just a few key events, or check out a fuller calendar of events on page 2.

If you’re a new student, from Wednesday through Friday be sure to stop anyone wearing a yellow All Day Q&A t-shirt! These are upperclassmen leaders who are all around campus to help you find where to go to and how to get around!

On Wednesday, if you find a golden ticket in The Charger Bulletin, then you have a chance to win $50 or $100! Make your own aquarium in the Bixler/Botwinik  Quad from 12-4pm, and also enjoy a taste of West Haven while you’re at it!

Thursday, Marcus the comedian will be in the Bixler/Botwinik Quad from 7-9pm, and there will be trips to the movie theatre and to go bowling in the evening.

Friday evening, from 5-7pm, there will be a K-9 demonstration in the Bixler/Botwinik Quad, followed by Dippin’ Dots and materials to make your own Charger Cavalry gear. At 7pm, join a bunch of people for a glow in the dark Frisbee game at Kayo Field, or check out Wade Live the magician from 8:30-9:30pm in the Bixler/Botwinik Quad.
On Saturday, there will be a shuttle to the West Haven Beach from 12pm-5pm. UNH Men’s Soccer will play Bentley College at 1pm at Kayo Field, and halftime activities will include a bunch of prizes! At 9pm in the Bixler/Botwinik Quad, there will be a bonfire, s’mores, photo key chains, and music!

Sunday from 10am-6pm will be assorted trips off-campus that you signed up for earlier in the week: these trips include Farmington River Tubing, Mystic for the day, and the Bronx Zoo. At 1pm, UNH Women’s Soccer will play Molloy College at Kayo Field, and Supermaket Bingo will entertain during dinner from 4:30-7:30pm. The movie Up will be shown at the Bixler/Botwinik Quad at 9pm, and will include root beer floats and popcorn.
