University Student Dies at 21

On March 11, University of New Haven student Rebecca Romprey died at the age of 21 in Manhattan.

Vice President of Student Affairs Rebecca Johnson informed the campus community of this loss last week with an email that was lost in delivery to students and only reached faculty. Johnson said on Saturday that she would be sending out another email to students.

Romprey was a Business major at the university who was interested in working in entertainment, according to Johnson’s email.

“Rebecca loved the theater and had a career goal to work in the theater business.  Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Rebecca’s family and friends,” she wrote.

Romprey was a native of Connecticut, graduating from Metropolitan Business Academy High School in New Haven.

“She was special, not just because she was our daughter, but because she had magic. No matter who you were, if you met our girl, you felt her energy instantly,” her obituary stated.

A wake will be held for Romprey from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home at 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Clare Catholic Church at 234 Coe Ave, East Haven.

The University has not yet responded to a request for the cause of death.
