Nominations for the 2021 SAG Awards are here

With many new shows, movies and breakout talent, people were waiting patiently to see who would be nominated for the 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards). “Emily in Paris” star, Lily Collins and “Hamilton” actor Daveed Diggs co-announced the nominations on Feb. 4 via Instagram live, making history as the first nominee announcement broadcasted live on social media for the SAG Awards. This was not the only ceremonial change that was because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the date of the ceremony was changed twice, it is expected to be pre-taped and will air for an estimated one-hour run on cable channels TNT and TBS on Apr. 4

Until then, people are taking to social media to make predictions of who will win. Sites such as Goldderby and have posted predictions for winners of each category. Goldderby writer Paul Sheehan is predicting that late actor Chadwick Boseman will win the Male Actor in a Leading Role award.

Boseman broke a SAG Awards record as the first actor to be nominated for four awards in a single year. Along with his nomination for Male Actor in a Leading Role, Boseman was also nominated for Male Actor in a Supporting Role, and his films, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Da 5 Bloods” received nominations for cast and ensemble, respectively.

Other predicted winners include one of the most popular new Netflix shows, “Bridgerton.” The period drama is nominated for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series. “Bridgerton” lead man, Regé-Jean Page is being considered for Male Actor in a Drama Series.

Similarly, lead actress of Netflix’s record-breaking series, “The Queen’s Gambit,” Anya Taylor-Joy is nominated for Female Actor in Television Movie or Limited Series. Her co-star, Bill Camp, is in the running for Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

Actresses Gillian Anderson, Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin are nominated for Female Actor in a Drama Series in which the trio will be representing the Netflix series, “The Crown.” Julia Garner and Laura Linney are also nominated for their performances in Netflix’s “Ozark.”

For comedy series, shows like “Schitt’s Creek” and “The Great” are up against each other. Both shows were selected for Outstanding Performance by a Cast (or Ensemble) in a Comedy Series. In addition, both shows have their lead actors, Dan Levy and Nicholas Holt competing for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
