The renewal of the series comes as part of a new overall deal for Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. Under the three-year pact with 20th Century Fox TV and FX Productions, Sutter will remain in control of the show, and will develop programs for both networks.
Though the renewal extends FX’s hit motorcycle-gang drama Sons of Anarchy to six seasons, the show is expected to run at least seven seasons. FX’s confidence in Sons of Anarchy and its creator Sutter is well-founded; its fourth season which just came to an end was its highest-rated season to date, with an 18 percent boost in the adults 18-49 demographic and a 21 percent leap in total viewers over the previous season. Even season four’s two-part finale, which aired in December, also grew 22 percent over the previous season’s finale.
Sutter has stated in previous interviews that “the fans of this show are real and raw; they understand and handle all that I throw at them. I will not let them down with the seasons to come.” The hype following this news ranges with its fan base that is ever growing. Many are excited and anticipating more change, growth, and Sutter’s twisting of the show. This writer has been a fan of the show for the past four seasons and is very excited to see where Sutter will take us next in this riveting, provoking, and contagious show.
