Chris Schnabel: Player of the week, how does it feel to get this honor, knowing you were awarded it because of your high level of play?
Alexandra Sharshakov: “I was very excited to hear that I was recognized as the Charger Player of the Week. I knew there were a lot of very deserving women this past week, so it’s a great honor.”CS: You guys have yet to lose a match, with a 22-5 advantage. How do you feel about the other teams in the conference?
AS: “I think we are certainly in the mix in the top half of the conference, but there are plenty of very good teams in our conference. It will take our best effort every match to compete with the likes of Stonehill.”
CS: You didn’t drop a point against Dowling on Thursday. What is going on at practice and in the locker room that is making you and your team play so well?
AS: “We all just enjoy playing tennis and everyone on the team tries to go out on the court and play their best. Coach Bricker does his best to get us ready for each match during practice and we’ve been very receptive to our coaching staff’s suggestions.”
CS: You were named to the Deans list along with the NE-10 honor roll. Is it hard to play at a high level and get work done and maintain such high grades?
AS: “It can be difficult and stressful at times to find the time to get all of my work done and go to practice, matches and lifting sessions, but it’s really about time management and making sure I stay ahead of my homework. There are definitely some late night study sessions, but it’s all worth it.”
CS: You guys play Stonehill (Oct. 3) who sits at 3-1 and 1-0 in the NE-10. How big is this match and how are you guys preparing for it?
AS: “We ended up losing this match on Thursday. It was a tough match versus the reigning NE-10 Conference Champs. We came out on the losing end this time, but hopefully, we get another shot at them in the spring during the conference tournament.”
