The MTV Video Music Awards are always one of the most anticipated and talked about award shows every year. The VMAs have provided some of the most memorable (and usually infamous) moments in modern music history, including, in recent years, the Britney/Christina/Madonna spit-swap and Kanye West’s hijacking of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. With the 2010 awards right around the corner, this year’s show will no doubt provide more classic moments that will be talked about for years to come.
This year’s confirmed performers include B.o.B., Justin Bieber, Eminem, Usher and Paramore, with deadmau5 acting as the house-artist. However, there will no doubt be a number of surprises as there usually are. Confirmed presenters include Ke$ha, Ne-Yo and Justin Timberlake.
The true star of the 2010 VMAs is without a doubt going to be Lady Gaga, who is up for a record 13 awards for her videos for “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” (featuring Beyonce). In fact, her nomination total moves up to 18 if the ones for Beyonce’s Video “Video Phone,” which features Gaga, are included. However, it is impossible that she will be able to take home all 13 (or even 18) because she is competing against herself in multiple categories including Video of the Year. Other artists with multiple nominations include Eminem with 8, B.o.B. with 5, and Beyonce with 5 of her own and 8 total if “Telephone”’ is included.
The award for Video of the Year will come down to 6 nominees, including two from Lady Gaga, 30 Second to Mars’ “Kings and Queens,” B.o.B.’s “Airplanes” (featuring Haley Williams), Eminem’s “Not Afraid,” and Florence + the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over.” If you ask me, Gaga’s “Bad Romance” should walk away with this one, hands down, and it’s likely that it will.
The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Sunday, September 12 at 9:00 p.m. With Chelsea Handler hosting, this is sure to be a classic show full of great moments, great music and great surprises. Be sure to tune in!
