The Association for the Protection of Collegiate Athletes has named the University of New Haven football team number one on their school ranking report for Division II Football in 2012.
APCA has ranked all 156 teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Football for the 2012 season.
The rankings are based on a formula developed by APCA and is done with interviews and surveys with current and past players. The formula emphasizes not only success on the field, but also treatment of players and academic integrity.
Out of 156 teams in the nation, New Haven’s formula number (0.3697) was the best. Last season, The Chargers went 10-1 overall and 8-0 in the Northeast-10 conference, and won the conference championship but were bounced from the Division II playoffs.
New Haven was joined by Bentley (3) as the two top five teams from the NE-10 conference. New Haven this year wrapped up its season with a victory over Assumption, finishing in third in the NE-10 with a record of 8-3, making it the fourth straight season with at least eight wins.
