SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven women’s basketball team fell 81-70 Saturday afternoon at Le Moyne College. Sophomore guard Anh-Dao Tran (Webster, Mass./Holy Name) scored a game-high 21 points, but the Chargers were out-rebounded 50-35. With the loss, the Chargers fell to 2-21 overall and 2-17 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Dolphins improved to 7-16 overall and 4-15 in conference play.
The Chargers scored the first seven points of Saturday’s game, including a three-pointer by Nikita Reddy (Germantown, Md./Germantown) at the 18:33 mark. New Haven continured to lead over the next four minutes, but the Dolphins answered with a 10-0 run to take a 15-10 lead after a pair of free throws. Ashley LeBlanc (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) put in a layup after a Tran three-pointer to even the score at 15-15 with 11:22 left in the opening half. Le Moyne regained the lead on the next basket and continued to lead by as many as eight points in the final minutes of the first half. With four seconds left, Katie Hart connected on a jumper and gave the Dolphins a 41-33 lead at halftime.
In the first minute of the second half, the Dolphins scored four points and took their first double digit lead of the game. Le Moyne would control the lead throughout the entire second half. The Dolphins took a lead as large as 19 points a number of times throughout the second half. The Chargers trailed by 19 points, 70-51, with 6:11 left and rallied down the stretch to close the gap to 11 points as time expired.
The biggest difference in the game was the rebounding advantage to the Dolphins. Le Moyne also recorded 24 offensive rebounds, compared to 14 by the Chargers. The Dolphins also led 19-13 in second chance points.
Tran added six assists and five steals to her 21 points. Aquillin Hayes (Harlem, N.Y./Wings Academy) added 16 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Le Blanc led the team with eight rebounds.
