On Friday, October 21, the world… ENDED!  Oh NO!  Obviously if you are reading this article, the world didn’t end, but the end did come for something else.  Last Friday, the SCOPE Film Committee showed the very last chapter of the Harry Potter series: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.  Everyone was at the edge of their seats preparing for the end.

All of us remember when the Harry Potter sensation started; we were just little kids when we first started reading the books or having the books read to us, and we fell in love with the story immediately.  Then the movies started coming out and even people that didn’t read the books became immediate fans.  It has been over a decade since the Harry Potter phenomenon began, and to commemorate the end, the SCOPE Film Committee not only showed the movie, but had a Harry Potter Party to celebrate.

Before the movie Film, with the help of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Club, celebrated the night by having a party, which included wand making, psychics, Harry Potter caricaturist, and Butter Beer events. All the students that came, and it seemed like the entire campus was there, were enjoying the moments before the movie by drinking Butter Beer and then joining in on the rest of the activities.

The Butter Beer was in the Dodds’ lobby along with the wand making activity.  Students had the chance to be Mr. Olivander and use phoenix feathers, unicorn hair, and all kinds of woods. Ok, so it wasn’t that professional; SCOPE and Science Fiction and Fantasy Club had a bit of a hard time locating those supplies, so they had to live with glitter and feathers. But it was still really fun.  Then when you entered Dodds Theater, on either side of the stage, students could pick from getting their future told by a psychic or getting a caricature that made you look like a wizard.  The lines were so long that some students only had time for one or the other, but of course the hard core Harry Potter fans got to the party so early that they had a chance to do both!

Then at 9:00 p.m., it was time for the big show.  Everyone took their seats with anticipation; the lights dimmed, and the movie began.  It was a roller-coaster for all.  Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley were amazing as the story came to an end.  They played their characters exceptionally well, as they always do, and they really brought the story to life.  It seemed very real, as they hid in the shadows, casted their spells trying to defeat Death Eaters, and extinguished Horcruxes. You felt like you were there with them.  And there were those moments when you thought you knew everything and things changed.

This movie, but especially the series, showed that this story was not just about one boy, but the story of three friends who had been through everything together.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the events that day.
