The Positives:
The semester has officially begun. It is good to get back to see everyone we missed over winter break. And though classes may not be something we look forward to as much as other things, they do give us something to do and for the first few weeks, they are not that bad.
The plowing of the snow seems to be a lot more organized this year. I can’t say if it’s because of more organization, more preparation, or just more time since the snow fell on Saturday instead of during the week, but things definitely went more smoothly.
The Negatives:
For those of us graduating this semester, we officially experienced our last official “first day of classes” as undergraduates. The “lasts” are starting to build up including last winter break, last tuition bill (though that’s more of a positive than a negative), and the last time moving back with mountains of stuff (or that might have just been me).
The first major snowfall of the semester falls on a Saturday, cancelling Saturday classes; seems like a waste of a “snow day.”
The Battery Charge:
Though I love snow days and I love them even more when they give us a day off from school, having a snow day on a Saturday does seem like a waste. However, I would argue that having a day off so early in the semester would also be a waste. I would rather get a day off half way through the semester when I’m swamped with work, instead of now when I haven’t received a majority of my syllabuses. But we can’t exactly control the weather, so I’ll just accept it.
