The Positives:
We won the football game! It was such an amazing game to watch, and it was really nice to see the stands so full. Also, I’m glad that the weather held out for the entire game and stayed dry for those of us in the stands.
Family day looked like it was a success. The number of families in attendance was a new record for the university. There was a multitude of events and trips planned. Thank you to everyone who helped out, and a great job goes to the Office of Student Activities for planning a great day that I’m sure everyone enjoyed.
The Negatives:
If you sign up to help out at an event, attend an event, or even write an article for say your favorite school newspaper, don’t back out of your commitment.
Everyone seems to be going to dinner during the week at the same time. Lines are outside the buildings and the wait to get your food can be lengthy as well. I think I’m going to try to go to dinner earlier to avoid some of the lines that start around 5:30-6:00 p.m.
The Battery Charge:
Clubs and organizations rely on the commitments of their members. If there is an event and you sign up to help set up or run the event, then you made a commitment to be there. It is unacceptable to email the club that morning that you are not coming, and it is even more disrespectful to just not show up. Signing up to do something is only one percent of what is required of you. Showing up and actually helping is the other 99. I witnessed this numerous times during Family Day at different clubs and organizations that were having events, and those in charge were very upset about the situation.
