Can you feel that? What is it? Yes that’s right the winter season is fast approaching and that feeling of chill in the air and, apparently really early, snow is already here preparing us for that time of year that everyone loves. The Holiday Season is creeping up on us fast, but SCOPE is still staying busy planning great events before the school closes for the holidays.
SCOPE’s Comedy and Lecture Committee is working hard planning their last couple of events for the semester. Last Thursday, November 3 in the German Club they had College Dating Coaches: Dave and Ethan present. It was a fantastic show. But Comedy and Lecture isn’t stopping there because they have another show to present this Thursday, November 10; they are going to have Jeff Havens: How to Get Fired in the Alumni Lounge at 7:30 p.m.
Also winding down on their events is SCOPE’s Special Events Committee who co-sponsored with LAU to have their Deal or No Deal Event. On Friday, November 4 in the German Club, students packed in to get the chance to win some great prizes. Most people walked away with something in their hands because there were so many prizes.
Even though some committees are winding down on their events, there are two committees still going strong. SCOPE’s Film committee has planned some great movies and is going to continue to do so until the very last week. This past week’s movie was Fright Night, going along with the end of October and celebrating Halloween. It was a great remake on the original from 1985 movie. This week’s movie is the complete opposite and will be having the audience laugh instead of screaming. Smurfs will be playing in Bartels Cafeteria on Friday, November 11 at 9:00 p.m. Film will also be putting on another event called A Spiderman’s Tale, featuring a Velcro wall and more, in the German Club from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The other committee going straight through until the very end of the semester is Weekend Programming, of course. They had a great weekend full of events, and all the students that came loved them. On Friday, November 4, they had Comedian J. Chris Newberg perform in the Programming Space. He was hilarious and everyone liked his different style of comedy. Instead of telling funny stories, he told a bunch of one liners. On Saturday, November 5, they took a trip to Rockefeller Center to go Ice Skating.
This weekend the fun continues with Juggle This on Friday, November 11 in Alumni Lounge at 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, November 12, Invisible Children will be presenting in the Alumni Lounge at 7:00 p.m.
There are more events to come because SCOPE is staying busy right up until the end of the semester to keep giving all the students great events and some free time fillers! Hope to see everyone at the events!
