It has been a great semester, and it is extremely depressing to know that this is the last “SCOPE It Out” article of the semester. Every committee has put on great events, and they all led up to the best event of all: Spring Weekend! There was the concert, then carnival, then comedian, and finally the drive in movie, and those were just the events that SCOPE put on. It was three days packed full of fun.
On Friday, the Spring Concert shook the entire Charger Gymnasium. Rock-it Scientists, who were the DJs for the night, opened up with some audience favorites and gave them a twist; they played in between bands all night and kept the party going. Then David Nail came on and sang some new songs, but of course sang his number one hits “Red Light” and “Turning Home.” Far East Movement also put on a good show; there was even a giant monkey dancing on stage. And We the Kings put on a great finale to end the night. They had everybody on their feet dancing and singing and enjoying a great show. All the bands put on a great show and all the students and their friends had a great time.
Then on Saturday, Halloween and Spring Carnival Committee had their major event of this semester: Spring Carnival. The theme they picked this year was “Under the Sea.” and they had some great activities to go along with it. There were sea creatures that you could stuff yourself, a mechanical shark, tiki bar, and the biggest one of all a tortoise. Not only were there activities, but great shows to go with them. The Balloon Freak put on a great magician and balloon show; he even put himself in a balloon! And then Fly by Night brought a whole bunch of talent and put on a great show. There was Brian Rudo who got out of two straight jackets, and Juggle This that juggled knives right over the partners face. Besides the shows and the activities, there was some great food. Fried dough, potatoes on a stick, waffles, fried Oreos, and a pizza truck just to name a few. Everything was amazing; it was a great day with great weather, and everyone had fun.
That night right after the Spring Carnival, there was the Spring Comedian: Ralphie May! Not even a minute had passed after ending the Carnival and there were there students standing in line waiting for the doors to open for Ralphie. For the first two hundred and fifty students, Comedy and Lecture committee gave away free blankets. Before Ralphie went on to make everyone laugh, Danny Lobell opened and got everyone ready. He had a great response; everyone was laughing to the point where they couldn’t breathe. Then as Danny walked off the stage, everyone was at the edge of their seats waiting for the big guy. If you thought that Danny made everyone laugh real hard, Ralphie was making students cry because they were laughing so much. It was a great show, a great end to the day, and just a good time.
After a long two days, SCOPE took a breather and put on a relaxing Drive-In Movie in the Quad. On Sunday, Just Go with It was playing in the Quad to calm everyone down from such a fun filled weekend. There was food and giveaways, and we gave away SCOPE pillows to go with those awesome blankets. It was a hilarious movie starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston; the combo was dynamic! It was a great way to end the weekend.
This weekend is always one of the most fun and the biggest event SCOPE puts on all year, but every single event this year was great. We all work really hard to bring fun to campus, and we have had some great responses. So from all of us at SCOPE, thank you for another great year. We can’t wait for next year!
