Last week was Comedy Week, and I have to say that it was pretty awesome. Comedy and Lecture brought great comedians, took great trips, gave away great prizes, and laughter filled the air.
On Monday, they brought comedian Tim Young to campus. He put on a great show, and by the end, everyone was on the floor laughing. (Ok maybe not on the floor, but they were laughing pretty hard.) It was a great act and everyone that came had a good time. Everyone that came also got a free Comedy Week T-shirt, and who doesn’t love free shirts?
On Tuesday, Film Committee and Comedy Lecture joined forces and showed the hilarious movie Little Fockers. The third movie was just as good as the first, with Robert De Niro playing the ex-military father-in-law and Ben Stiller playing the taunted son-in-law. It was full of classic father-in-law/son-in-law bickering, which of course filled the room with laughter. Students also had a great time when Comedy and Lecture gave out more Comedy Week shirts, some new comedy favorite movies, and had free pizza and ice cream. With two committees planning this event, it ended up being fantastic.
For Wednesday, Comedy and Lecture planned another comedian who also brought laughter to campus. Comedian Arvin Mitchell was hilarious. He made fun of himself and his family, his travels, and he had a great time making fun of UNH. (But in a good way.) It was another good time , and another great comedian.
Instead of a night event on Thursday, Comedy and Lecture had a day event. They brought caricaturist Fred Fassberger to the Programming Space. There was a line out the door, because everyone wanted a caricature of themselves; he did a fantastic job. Students had a great time laughing at themselves.
On Friday night, Comedy and Lecture, with the help of Weekend Programming, took a trip to the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Hartford. The students that went in the trip got to enjoy three local comedians, while eating free wings and drinks. The comedians were hilarious, and every student was laughing for hours.
On Saturday, Comedy Week ended on a high note. Weekends brought comedian Nikki Glaser to campus. There was a big crowd in Dodds Theater laughing their heads off. After Nikki Glaser, Comedy and Lecture ended the night with the Roast of Jen Cross, SCOPE Chair. Some of Jen’s friends and some of the SCOPE committee heads went up and made of her catch phrases, her bubbly exterior, and other fun aspects. Rochelle LaFrance, Alex Alund, and Bryan LaPointe were hilarious and made everyone laugh, but Jen was a good sport about it and had fun herself. It was a great end to a great laughter filled Comedy Week.
