Vacationstayus! (Wave of my wand) And…..nothing. So, I am not a wizard, but I tried to make Spring Break last longer. But everyone has to go back to classes and clubs and whatever else it is you guys do.
Although, with all the great events going on here on campus, who wants the break to last longer? We should want to have fun and hang out with friends. Yeah I know. Somehow Spring Break will always win the fun battle, but there have been some really great events going on to fill in the gap between classes before break and more to fill the gap between now and summer vacation. All the SCOPE Committees have been hard at work planning great events before break and working even hard to plan events for after break.
As always, Film had picked some movies to play in Bartels; the movie before break was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. After the amazing response for the Harry Potter Movie Trip that SCOPE and Twisted Thursdays put together in November ,there was no way we were going to pass up the opportunity to bring it to campus. We had amazing turn outs both nights it played, and some people even came twice. Now everyone can’t wait until the second part comes out this summer. I can’t wait to see the lines for that.
And the last movie that Film showed before break was The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. Depp plays an innocent tourist when Jolie purposely crosses his path and gets him involved in her “business.” Unfortunately, because of break, Film could only show the movie once, but they have more great movies for after break. They will be showing Tron, Little Fockers, How Do You Know, and more. Stayed tuned for more great movies!
The week before break was also a good week for Weekend Programming. A lot of students came out to the Mardi Gras Party on Friday and to the Biggest Loser Speaker on Saturday. On Friday, before students went to the second showing of the Harry Potter movie, they came out for Weekends taco bar, tiki bar, piñata, and of course mask decorating. The Mardi Gras Party was a complete success; the alcohol free margaritas and the taco bar went like hot cakes and the masks that students decorated were beautiful.
On Saturday, Amanda from Season 8 of the Biggest Loser was here on campus talking about her struggle with weight and her time on the show. She inspired a lot of students to get on the right track, and the prizes that Weekends, with the cosponsorship of Late Night Programming and Charger Rec, gave away gave some students a head start. If you thought that the events for the first half of the semester were good, just wait until after break; they have new events planned like Quidditch and What the Puck? There are also trips to Six Flags and more. So come back for more!
Also before break was this month’s Beanhouse full of St. Patrick’s Day surprises. The food was all Irish themed; there was Irish soda bread and Lucky Charm rice crispy treats. The school talent was still fantastic. Everyone that played or sang was amazing and really showed what great talent this school has. There will be more talent featured at the last Beanhouse of the year in April; you don’t want to miss it.
