Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! So it’s a little late, but it still counts. Valentine’s Day is when you show the people that you love, including your mom, dad, siblings, and friends (not just your significant others), that you care. SCOPE used Valentine’s Day the same way. We showed the entire student body that we care by putting on events!
It has been a busy week for Special Events who put on an Arcade and a Valentine’s Day themed Beanhouse. The New Hall Game Room got some temporary new additions when Special Events brought some arcade classics to campus. There was Golden Tee, MoCap Boxing, Teken 4, Arcade Legends, Ms. Pacman, and NBA Jam. Everyone played against friends or just played to beat old scores. Some people even played so hard that they were out breathe.
Another great event put on by Special Events this past week was Beanhouse. They had a Valentine’s Day themed Beanhouse where they gave out roses and had a band open the night with some awesome songs. After the band went up, the night was full of student musicians singing the best love songs. It was a Beanhouse to remember. We can’t wait until the one in March!
As always Film put on a fantastic movie last week; it had people literally jumping out of their seats. Paranormal Activity 2 had everyone’s heart racing with the suspense and scary activities that went on. This week Film is showing the movie Megamind, starring Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, and Will Ferrell; this is a comedy of a superhero and villain relationship. There have been rave reviews of it, so it is a must see. Come to Bartels on Tuesday and Friday at 9:00 p.m.
Here’s a heads up! Film week is on the way! Next week is Film week and every day the Film Committee has a fantastic event planned based around the movies. So you have to come out and enjoy some great events, get some cool stuff, and just enjoy a good time.
The week’s events are:

Monday: Movie Burlesque at 9:00 p.m. in Bartels and Movie Trivia Sign ups at 9:00 p.m. online.

Of course, weekends also had great events showing the campus that SCOPE cares about the students. This past weekend, Weekends had Antique Photos, where students were able to get into old fashioned outfits and see what they would have looked like decades or even centuries ago. They also got a picture as proof. On Saturday, everyone took a trip to New York City to see the Broadway classic Phantom of the Opera. Students had the chance to spend the day in New York before seeing the play that night. This weekend, they have some more fun events planned with Tie Dye T-shirts on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the Bartels Faculty Dining Room. On Saturday, they have a Video Game Party, with the new Kinect from X-box, at 7:00 p.m. in the Bartels Programming Space.
Again, I wish everyone a (belated) Happy Valentine’s Day with love from SCOPE.
