WELCOME BACK! I hope everyone had a great break and is ready not only for classes but for a great semester full of fun events. All the SCOPE committees have been working extra hard over the break to come up with great new ideas, fun trips, and just exciting events for the entire semester. Weekend Programming planned a great first weekend and Comedy and Lecture started events early. If this past week was any indication of the semester to come, it’s going to be a great semester!
Weekends first weekend consisted of some great events that revolved around school preparation. On Friday, they had “Make Your Own Tote Bags” in the Programming Space. Those tote bags went fast. Students enjoyed decorating their new bags for school books with fabric markers and fabric paint, some ribbon, and just enjoyed a great time. For Saturday, they had another great school supply event called “Make Your Own White Boards.” Pictures were taken of each student or together with their friends and then burned onto a small white board. Now, a lot of students on campus have white boards to write assignments and things they need to accomplish. They can also remember a fun night. Even some SCOPE committee heads got involved and got a white board to decorate the office with!
If you missed out on the fun this weekend, don’t worry because Weekend Programming has an entire semester of FUN weekends planned. This weekend coming up, they have Matthew James the Hypnotist coming on Friday, January 28 at 8:00 p.m. in Dodd’s Theater. On Saturday, they are taking a Bowling Trip. The sign ups are on tonight at 9:00 p.m. Look in your email for more information.
The Film Committee is back and ready to show some awesome movies this semester, at the same place and days. This week’s movie was Social Network, a movie about the guy who created Facebook. You just have to see it to believe how awesome it is. If you missed Tuesday’s showing, don’t worry, there is another showing on Friday in Bartels at 9:00 p.m. Next week Film is showing Due Date with Robert Downing Jr. Come to Bartels on Tuesday and Friday at 9:00 p.m.
Comedy and Lecture has started their programming early this semester and brought Eric Blake to campus this past Monday. This guy was hilarious! He brought tears to everyone’s eyes, because they were laughing so hard. Blake is the start of a very laughter filled semester!
It was an awesome first week back and there are more fun events to come. In fact, there’s a whole semester filled with them! Coming this semester, you can expect Film Week, Comedy Week, and Rock-n-Roll Week, trips to the Opera, great speakers, a Quidditch Tournament, Double Dare, and the best of them all SPRING WEEKEND! So stay tuned.
