Hartford police say they arrested a 24-year-old city man after he kidnapped his girlfriend and her two young children.

Angel Martinez was charged Sunday with first-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault, firearms crimes and drug possession.

Police say a relative of the woman called authorities shortly after 2 p.m. to report that the woman was being held at gunpoint.

The series of events began on Tredeau Street in the city’s South End. Police say they later found Martinez’s car on Madison Avenue in the city’s North End.

Police say Martinez had 20 bundles of heroin in his possession when officers arrested him.

The victim’s name wasn’t released.

It wasn’t clear if Martinez has a lawyer.
