The Marine Biology Club is hosting a Bottling and Canning Cancer event on October 14 and 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Bartels Patio. This is the first year they are running this fundraiser but Gaitlyn Malone, Vice President of Marine Biology Club says that they are “hoping for a great turn out.”
The club will be collecting any recyclable or refundable cans and bottles. All of the money collected from the recyclables will be sent to the Susan G. Komen organization.
The Susan G. Komen foundation’s mission statement, according to their website, is “to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering others, ensuring quality care for all and investing in science to find the cures.”
The cosponsors for this event include Students Making and Impact on their Living Environment, Alpha Phi Omega, Alpha Sigma Kappa, and the Music Industry Club. Both days they will be keeping a tally of the people that donate to the cause and who donates what. At the end of the event the person who donated the most to the cause will receive a prize.
