Even though it was Comedy Week last week, that doesn’t mean that the SCOPE Weekly Movie took a break. Film Committee even planned with Comedy and Lecture to pick the right movie full of comedy. The movie of the week was Happy Feet Two, and it was full of the same drama, fun, and laughter, like any movie for Comedy Week should be.
Just like the first Happy Feet movie, the penguins deal with a wide spread problem affecting the population in the second movie. This time Mumble, voiced by Elijah Wood, deals with global shifts that forces all species of penguin to come together to save their homes. But now he also has a family, a son, to handle as well. Mumble’s son, Erik, voiced by Ava Acres, is also dealing with some problems. As students watched the penguins deal with their problems, they couldn’t help but feel for the animals.
But what would a Comedy Week movie be if it didn’t have some laughs. Of course that’s what Robin Williams is for! Williams plays both Ramon, the small, Spanish penguin, and Lovelace, also small but souled penguin. Both these characters brought lightness to the movie, as Robin Williams always does.
It was a great combination of drama and laughter and a perfect combo for Comedy Week. The movie was paired with ice cream at Tuesday’s showing and, of course, popcorn for Friday’s showing; it turned out to be a great time for the students. There are still great movies to come, but there are only a few left, so don’t make plans for Tuesdays or Fridays.
