This past week was rush week for many of University of New Haven’s fraternities. Delta Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Gamma Rho, Sigma Chi, and Alpha Phi Delta all had a week full of events, which helped them show their true colors to prospective members, as well as bring some excitement to the campus.
The organizations enjoyed various events specific to their fraternities as well as formal interviews of all of their prospective members. All of the fraternities experienced great turnouts and had an enjoyable week for not only the pre-existing members, but also the prospective members.
Delta Chi was especially excited this year because for the past three years they have not been able to recruit. This year, however, they had 15 candidates. Delta Chi is excited to show that they are making a comeback.
Alumni Secretary and Recruitment Chair of Delta Chi, Kyle O’Halloran said, “Delta Chi is back, and if this rush has shown anything, Delta Chi is here to stay. We are going to be stronger than ever.”
Delta Chi’s week of events included chapter tours on Sunday, an informational meeting on Monday, ice breakers and games on Tuesday, 1 on 1 interviews on Wednesday, a game night on Thursday, and a trip to Buffalo Wild Wings in downtown New Haven on Friday. After this long week of events, Delta Chi was able to extend bids to 12 candidates and these bids were accepted very quickly by 11 of these candidates. All in all, things are looking positive for Delta Chi, and they are very clearly showing that they are back for good this time.
Meanwhile, Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) had an equally as successful week. SAE’s scheduled events included an off campus barbecue with the brothers on Labor Day, followed by a speed dating type event on Tuesday to help members and candidates get to know each other better. Wednesday included an informational meeting and on Thursday, they watched football together. Members of SAE found the week to be very exciting and successful.
Sophomore Brian Hurley said, “My favorite part of rush week was being able to see first-hand how excited and interested the potential new members were. No matter what we were doing, they just loved to hang out with us and learn all about our fraternity.”
Senior, Nick Sallucci, said, “Rush week reminds you of the reasons why you joined in the first place, and why you take it so dear to the heart.”
Clearly, SAE had a great experience in rush week. At the end of the week, SAE extended bids to 11 new members that they are very excited about.
Delta Chi and SAE were not the only ones to have a successful week, however. Kappa Gamma Rho (KGR) also saw a great turnout. KGR began their week with chapter tours on Sunday, a speed dating type event on Monday, lawn games on Tuesday, dodgeball on Wednesday, and interviews on Thursday. They also held an event on Friday which was open to invite only. Overall, the week was exciting to the brothers of KGR.
KGR President, Brandon Miller said about the atmosphere that it was, “Very positive. Everyone in attendance had a good attitude and just came to have fun and get to know one another.”
Miller also believes that KGR, “ended up with a great group of guys from [rush week]”
KGR extended six bids this week, which were all accepted – clearly demonstrating how KGR had a very successful week as well!
Sigma Chi’s rush week was also a success with many events taking place. Sunday began the week with chapter tours, Monday’s theme was billiards hall, Tuesday was ‘Sigma Series’, Wednesday followed with a bonfire, Thursday included individual interviews, and Friday was an invite only event.
It was also, of course, a successful week for Alpha Phi Delta!
