By the end of last semester, the monthly Beanhouses were getting extremely popular; so the anticipation for the first Beanhouse was high. On Wednesday, February 15 students, both performers and audience members, showed up early to the Programming Space just waiting for the event to begin. The night was filled with great performers and some fun surprises for the audience members.
There were so many performers for the night, and each one did a great job singing or playing guitar or both either alone or in groups. The opening performances were from Alex and Evan Raine, who both sang a solo and the did a song together. After they warmed the audience up, the group “Cat and the Vapors” got on stage and sang three songs, which consisted of some they wrote themselves and others that the audience knew. Each performer that got on stage got better and better, and each added their personal touches to their songs. Some of the other performers were Catalina Gonzalez, Kirsten Surdes, Brian Kopec, Matt Pignatore, Chris Choiriere, Tina Sciortino, Zacherry Cokeley, and Eric Neilson. Some of them played popular songs that were known by the audience, and they joined along singing. Others were written by the artists themselves and were also great to hear.
But the end act was the show stopper and even won the audience approval for the overall best act of the night. CRU played a beautiful song and the group consisted of numerous members that were back-up singers and a lead singer that also played the guitar. They did such a fantastic job that they won the Best Performance of the night. All the performances were great though.
This Beanhouse also had some surprises for the audience. As people walked in, they were able to snack on some late night desserts such as vanilla and chocolate ice cream with Oreo crumbles, sprinkles, brownie chunks, whipped cream, and cherries for toppings. And the SCOPE Special Events Committee Head, Mohammed Vahora, presented the first fifty girls that walked in with a rose.
If you think you’re missing some of the action, make sure to keep your schedule open for the next few months. The next Beanhouse should be even better than this one!
