Disney’s 2020 Investor Day Announcements
According to a Motley Fool vs Action Alert Plus review, on Dec. 10, 2020, the Walt Disney Company webcast its Investor Day 2020, an event that revealed the release dates of the company’s direct-to-consumer content on its streaming site, Disney Plus. Investor Day included an extensive lineup of movies, tv-series and shorts. Over the next few years, Disney will release ten Marvel, ten Star Wars, and fifteen live-action and animated Pixar films and shows on Disney Plus. Here are just a few of the many exciting releases Disney Plus has in store for its subscribers:
The healthcare robot sidekick Baymax, from “Big Hero 6,” is getting its own series set in the fictional city of San Fransokyo. “Princess and the Frog’s” Tiana and Moana, will headline their own long-form musical series. “Encanto,” another upcoming series, tells the story of a magical family living in Colombia with its score written by “Hamilton’s” Lin Manuel Miranda. It is set to release in Nov. 2021.
Disney Plus will be the home of “Zootopia+,” a short-form spinoff featuring some of the movie’s most popular characters, Fru Fru, Tiger Dancers and Flash the sloth. “Iwájú,” a new Pan-African themed animated story between Disney and Kugali Media is set to be released in 2022. The story that inspired the Buzz Lightyear character from the Toy Story franchise, “Lightyear,” starring “Captain America” actor Chris Evans will open June 17, 2022.
The “Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s” full trailer was released alongside an announcement for a March 2021 release date. “WandaVision,” the first Marvel Studios show releasing on Disney Plus, aired a new trailer ahead of its upcoming Jan. 15, 2021 release date. “Loki.” the highly anticipated short television series based on Marvel’s god of mischief character, announced a May 2021 release date.
Disney has also set release dates for their films that will premiere simultaneously on Disney Plus and in theaters from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and the recently acquired 20th Century Studios. “The King’s Man,” a prequel to the “Kingsman” series will be released on March 12, 2021. The animated movie “Raya and the Last Dragon” will debut on March 5, 2021.
