Rainbow Cupcakes: Serving Size 18-24

Rainbow cupcakes.

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cook time: 25 minutes


– 1 box of white or yellow cake mix

– eggs, water, oil (according to recipe)

– frosting (your preference)

– food coloring




– 1 bowl for each color

– cupcake wrappers



1. Make the cake mix according to the box directions.

2. Set up bowls for each color you want to use, then separate the batter among the bowls.

3. Mix each bowl until you have the color you want (make sure the color is completely mixed in)

4. Decide the order of the colors, keeping similar colors away from each other.

5. When filling the cups, keep in mind how many colors you have so you do not over fill the cups.

a. There are two techniques to filling:

i. After putting a color spread out to a flat layer (that’s what I did).


ii. Pour in and let the color land where it may.

6. Cook the cupcakes according to the directions, cool, frost and ENJOY!

This is a fun cupcake to do with friends if you each pick out a color. It’s easy to make group projects out of it. I had lots of fun making these with my friend Nicolle!
