The university’s men’s and women’s track and field team gave an outstanding performance at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship held at New Balance in Boston Massachusetts. With standout attempts across both sides, the Chargers took home runner up finishes in both team competitions.
The men’s team saw several athletes gaining individual titles and podium standings to put up important points for the team. Junior Mohammed Abunar captured the 3000m title as well as secured second place in the 5000m. Senior Joshua Stewart finished the 60m dash in 6.94 seconds which earned him the conference title.
The women’s team also had an outstanding appearance. Junior Gabrielle Teel took charge in the triple jump and finished in first place after recording a jump of 11.60m. Freshman Wilnye Joseph competed in the high jump and earned second place after a jump of 1.55m. Sophomore Jada Kamtha competed in five events and secured the pentathlon title after she earned 3,078 points.
The Chargers will be back in action this weekend to compete in the New England Championships. The event will take place all day Friday and Saturday back in Boston at the Track at New Balance. For more information, visit NewHavenChargers.com.
