By Jakki Gouveia: Executive Assitant, IFSC
Hey all! This is Jakki, your Inter Fraternity Sorority Council executive assistant. I just wanted to give you all an update on the great things that Greek life has been doing.
A couple of weeks ago, we had our “Supergreek” Greek week. Within that week, Greek life held three community service events, which is something we’ve never done before. We held penny wars all throughout the week, and the organization who collected the most pennies at the end won all the money from the week for their philanthropy. The winning organization for penny wars was Sigma Iota Alpha, who received $781.61 and donated it to the March of Dimes Foundation.
We want to say thank you to all of those who helped out by donating to the organizations; it was greatly appreciated. Our next event was canstruction, an event in which we held a canned food drive in the surrounding area of Milford. With the help of Trader Joe’s, we were able to drop off about 600 bags. Our final count of food was 697 pounds, which was donated to the Connecticut Food Bank. Our last community service event for the week was a frozen clothes race, in which the clothes used were donated to Goodwill. We hope in the future to see all of you come out and support us during Greek week.
Within the past couple of weeks, some great events had been held by various organizations. We hope that you were able to show your support for Delta Phi Epsilon’s ANAD Week and Lambda Alpha Upsilon’s American Idol, Deal or No Deal, and Lambda Wet Down Events. Also, we hope that you enjoyed Delta Chi’s Pudding Tug of War and were able to stay clean, and we hope to see you at their last blood drive of the semester. Lastly, thank you for your support with Sigma Alpha Epsilons World Cup Tournament, Sigma Chi’s pledge class’s Pig Roast Fundraiser, and Phi Sigma Sigma’s Spring 2011 new member’s fundraiser for the Pacer Foundation. Next year, we hope to see even more events; we hope you all come out!
With the end of the year coming up, IFSC held elections for their new executive board for the 2011-2012 school year. We would like to say congratulations to Walter Cantarero from Delta Chi for his new president position, Tori Ford from Delta Phi Epsilon for her vice president position, Alexa Mutt from Delta Epsilon Beta for her executive assistant position, Chris Erath from Delta Chi for his re-election as treasurer, and Aaron Colon from Sigma Chi for his sergeant at arms position. Good luck next year everyone; we know you will do a fabulous job with Greek life.
Lastly, we would like to say congratulations to all of the newly elected sweethearts, and good luck to all of those graduating seniors! It’s been a great year; thanks for all of your support and we hope you decide to join Greek life next year!
