Delta Chi had a great time over Spring Rush Week 2013. Although we lost two days to snowstorm Nemo, we were not about to lose out on some great food and some friendly competition.
The first night of rush week, which was moved to Wednesday, had a great turnout and was a great success. We hosted our Meet the Brothers event, as we do each semester, but this time the event included our own version of “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?”
We began the night with a PowerPoint of each Brother of Delta Chi currently attending the university, which consisted of some funny and embarrassing before and after pictures and some basic personal information. Then the real entertainment began with our game.
Separated into three teams, the game was tons of fun, with each team fighting for as many points as they could possibly get. Questions ranging from where cities are, to math equations and tough riddles left teams scratching their heads and other teams jumping up trying to steal the question. It was a great event that quickly got the rushees involved and allowed everybody to get to know each other and communicate.
On Thursday night, we had the Delta Chi food challenges. Everybody had a full stomach by the end of this event! We began the night with an ice cream eating challenge, which consisted of teams of two racing to get to the bottom of a carton of ice cream. Within minutes we had our winners scraping at the bottom of the container with their faces covered in chocolate. Other contests included pepper challenges, saltine cracker challenges, a pie eating contest, the cinnamon challenge, a butter challenge and even a Capri-Sun juice box challenge. The night was a great time and everybody left with a full stomach, not even wanting to eat the variety of cupcakes, brownies and chocolate cakes that were left.
Friday night was our invitation only event, and was by far the best of the three nights. We took a trip out to Hooter’s in Milford for some all you can eat wings. Any flavor you wanted! There were so many trays of wings; it felt like they never stopped bringing them out. The Hooter’s girls brought out some hula hoops and some of the guys participated in a hula hoop contest. To top it all off, it was Mark Ehlmann’s birthday and he was told to stand on a chair while the girls covered him in “I <3 Hooter’s” stickers and sang “Happy Birthday” to him.
To finish up the night, we went out into the parking lot to enjoy some cigars with the rushees. Overall, for losing out on two additional days of events due to a snowstorm, Rush Week was just as fun as always, and we can’t wait to do it all again next semester.
Hope to see you all there!
