On Saturday, the Chargers traveled to Manchester, New Hampshire to face the Saint Anselm University Hawks. After a total of nine matches, New Haven had a total of eight victories and won, 6-1.
Junior Valentinna Ferrarini and senior Karim Carreras competed in the first doubles match and finished 6-1. In the second doubles, freshman Victoria Togores and senior Risako Umekuni defeated the Hawks 6-2. Freshman duo Leni Bischof and Laura Ortner swept Saint Anslem’s Abigail Svor and Julie Svor in the third doubles. The pair finished first out of the three matches and won 6-0.
New Haven had five victories out of the six singles matches. Ferrarini fell short to her opponent Irene Garbo, and finished the first set 1-6, and 6-7 in the second set. Carreras faced Saint Anslem’s Julie Borschig in the second singles and won 6-3 in the first set, followed by a sweep of 6-0 in the second set. Umekuni competed in the third singles against the Hawk’s N. Gonzalez Ramos. Umekuni finished 6-4 in the first set and 6-2 in the second, securing another point for New Haven.
Ortner competed in the fourth singles match and won 6-2, 6-1, respectively against the Hawk’s C. Heredia Osante. Sophomore Augustina River had her second sweep of the season after defeating her opponent Abigail Svor, 6-0, in the fifth singles match. Finishing the match, Bischof competed in her first singles game of the season against Alyssa Conley and won 6-1 in the first set and 6-2 in the second.
After the win over Saint Anselm, the Chargers still stand undefeated at an overall record of 4-0 and 3-0 in conference play. New Haven will be back in action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday to face the Assumption University Greyhounds as their fifth conference match of the season.
