WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Former University of New Haven women’s soccer student-athlete Meabh De Burca (County Galway, Ireland/Nat.
University of Ireland-Galway) recently signed a professional contract with Amazon Grimstad FK in Norway. De Burca, who earned her Sports Management Master’s degree in 2011, played two seasons with the Chargers before returning to her hometown of County Galway, Ireland.
Located in Grimstad, Amazon Grimstad FK is located in southern Norway and it competes in Norway’s top league called Toppserien. DeBurca’s contract starts in February with preseason training camp in Spain. The season begins in April and runs through November.
“I’m very excited to have signed for Amazon and I’m looking forward to focusing just on playing soccer every day,” De Burca said. “My time at New Haven has definitely helped me prepare for the demands of a full time soccer career and I can’t wait to get started!”

Prior to her two year stint at UNH, De Burca represented the Republic of Ireland at the U17 and U19 levels. She captained the U19’s for the 2006-07 season and played on the Salthill Devon soccer club in 2008 as part of the Intermediate Irish Cup Championship team. She’s also played as a member of the Republic of Ireland National Team and has amassed over 40 international games to date.
