The Chargers hosted the Bowdoin College Polar Bears on Saturday for their home season opener game. This game began the third season of 15’s for the Chargers, but they fell 69-21 to the Polar Bears.
Senior captain SydneyDela Cruz led the way for the Chargers as she went 3-for-3 in conversion attempts, securing 6 pointsfor New Haven. New Haven had three scores duringthe match, all comingfrom different players.
The first try came from Lala Guimares in the 29th minute giving the Chargers their first five points. Dela Cruz making the conversion set the scoreboard to 7-26.
Aggie Mahan added the second try for the Chargers early in the second half boosting the score to 14-31 after the conversionwas made. Sereano Vualono scored the final try ofthe game for New Havenin the 58th minute of thematch. After Dela Cruz’sthird and final conversionof the game, the Chargersstood 21-36 with the PolarBears.
Bowdoin’s Lulu Linkas went 5-for-5 in conversion attempts adding ten points for the Polar Beard. Saniya Ridley led Bowdoin with three tries, adding 15.
