SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven women’s volleyball team received seven first place votes and 231 total points for a third place prediction in the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Poll. Bentley University received five first place votes and 242 points to be the NE-10 preseason favorites.
After Bentley and four points ahead of the Chargers is the Merrimack College Warriors who received three of the remaining four first place votes. In fourth place, NE-10 newcomer, Adelphi University earned 210 points and the one remaining first place vote.
The Chargers open the 2009 season on Friday, September 4 against Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the Raider Classic in Shippensburg, Pa. New Haven’s home opener is Wednesday, September 9 at 7 p.m. against Queens College. The Chargers play in another early season tournament, the Bentley Invitational in Lowell, Mass. and a pair of non-conference games before opening the NE-10 schedule on Wednesday, September 23 against Pace University.
The Chargers went a perfect 14-0 last season in NE-10 action on their way to the regular season and tournament championships.
