WEST HAVEN – On Sunday the University of New Haven women’s soccer team took on the Molloy College Lions, hoping to keep the momentum going after last week’s season opening 6-0 win at Post University. The game opened slowly, as the opponents each seemed to be feeling one another out, waiting for an opportunity to attack.

The action picked up around the game’s 25th minute; the Chargers narrowly missed on two scoring opportunities. Fortunately in the 29th minute, freshman midfielder, Lucy Francisco opened the scoring with her second goal of the season, drilling a shot from 20-yards. The Chargers relied heavily on their strong defense and ability to control the ball. Deep into the second half, sophomore forward Alexa DellaRocco netted her third goal of the year with a beautiful header off of a rebounded shot by junior forward, Emily Buckley-Matura. Sophomore goalie, Kim Taylor registered four saves earning her fourth career shutout for the Chargers. All-in-all, the University of New Haven Chargers held a 7-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 advantage in saves.

Expected to be promising this year, the women’s soccer team needs support from the fans of the University of New Haven as they continue their season.
