EASTON, Mass. – Junior Alexis Gabbe of the University of New Haven women’s lacrosse team scored three goals on Saturday afternoon, but the Chargers were defeated by No. 6 nationally ranked Stonehill College by the final score of 15-6. With the loss, UNH dropped to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Skyhawks remained undefeated, improving to 9-0, 6-0 in the league.

After two quick goals from the home team, the Chargers got on the board with Gabbe’s first of three goals on the afternoon. However, the Skyhawks scored five goals from four different players to close out the first half. Sam Lynott’s goal with six minutes left in the stanza put Stonehill in front 7-2, a score that would stick until halftime.

After the intermission, the Skyhawks found the back of the net three more times in the first eight minutes. Gabbe scored her second goal of the game at the 20 minute mark, but Stonehill answered with two more. The Chargers collected three of the game’s last five goals, but couldn’t overcome their deficit – granting the Skyhawks a 15-6 victory.

Sarah Magnone and Kristina Curry also fared well offensively, combining for the other three goals. Magnone had two goals, two ground balls and one caused turnover, while Curry added one goal, two ground balls, two draw controls and forced two turnovers. Ashley Ferrandiz tallied a team-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers and goalkeeper Maureen Spellman stopped 11 shots in net.

Hannah Anderson finished with a game-high five goals, Heather Sullivan added three and Lynott and Kayla Green tallied two apiece.

The Chargers return to action on Monday, April 4 with an away game against Franklin Pierce. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
