On a cold Saturday morning on homecoming weekend, UNH faculty, students, and families came together to honor a special benefactor to the university’s radio station, WNHU.
Lois Bergami was honored with the renaming of WNHU’s studio on Ruden Street to the Lois Evalyn Bergami Broadcast Media Center.
Bergami and her husband Sam are regular donors to the university, and they believe in the vision put forth for its students.
Festivities began with opening remarks by President Steven H. Kaplan, followed by Philip Bartels, chairman of the UNH Board of Governors, who both expressed their gratitude for the Bergamis’ contributions to UNH.
General Manager of WNHU, Bruce Barber, spoke on behalf of the students of UNH and what he would vision the station to accomplish for students.
“We will make these qualities part of the DNA of this radio station,” he said, citing the kindness and generosity of the Bergami family.
After Barber, UNH student Leah Meyers, the station manger, spoke about how the Bergamis have inspired her to dream big and work hard.
Finally to the podium was Bergami herself, who spoke about the reasons she and her husband care about the university so much, especially the dedication to higher learning that is so profound.
The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the new sign in front of the new Media Center, to be seen by all who enter and pass by.
