It might have been a busy week with SCOPE planning Spring Weekend and all, but they still put on some great events during the week to keep the momentum going. On Tuesday, April 24 in the Bartels Programming Space, SCOPE Day Programming had everything you could think of to put your name on. “What’s in a Name?” was an event that had a line wrapping around the Programming Space with people waiting to get some awesome novelties.
The most popular activity of the day was Val’s Custom Leather. Students were able to get their names on leather bracelets, leather key chains, and leather hearts. Almost every student got a leather bracelet with their name on it or Greek letters, but there were some that got some key chains and put them on their keys right away. Others got hearts with theirs and their boyfriends/girlfriends name on them. Students were also able to pick from a variety of characters, such as turtles, cowboy hats, elephants, and more, that they could put on the leather as well.
But of course SCOPE goes the distance, because that was not the only activity available. Also in the Programming Space was Rice Jewelry. Now everyone knows what Rice Jewelry is, and everybody wanted one. Students were able to get their names on a small piece of rice. Also for this event, students could pick a character, like whales, horses, suns, and more, but their character was attached to a little tube that the rice went in and was then filled with water. Even though most students had seen this before, they were still impressed and loved their Rice Jewelry.
And last but not least there were Street Signs. For this novelty, students could pick from a huge selection of street signs; there were regular street signs that said street, boulevard, avenue, and road but there were also no parking signs, room signs, and more. Once a student picked out the sign they wanted, they could put any saying, as long as they weren’t rude or derogatory, on it. It got printed out, and student picked up their individually made sign.
