Over the past week the Undergraduate Student Government Association (USGA) has been very busy participating in many of the Welcome Week events. The USGA E-Board, along with many of the USGA senators, has been volunteering their time to give the student body a welcome return back to the UNH campus.
On Sunday, Aug. 23, the USGA sponsored an Ice Cream Social event to greet the freshman to the campus. The USGA volunteers passed out over 1,000 ice cream bars. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the USGA sponsored a club fair which turned out to be the largest event of Welcome Week. With over 80 clubs and organizations represented, a dozen local businesses, and over 1,500 students that attended, it turned out to be a great event. Many of the university’s clubs and organizations saw a sharp increase in membership.
In my time spent walking around the club fair, I heard of a case where a single organization had 200 new students interested. I was proud to see the students of the University of New Haven come together and want to get involved.
The USGA also played a major role in the three day event “All Day Q&A.” Many senators, media heads, and E-Board members volunteered their time to help first year and transfer students find their classes during the first few days of school. These students were spotted all over campus wearing bright yellow shirts. I would like to say thank you to all of the students who volunteered their time!
The first USGA meeting was this past Monday. I hope you were able to attend and if not I hope to see you at the upcoming meeting which is Monday at 1:45pm in the Alumni lounge.
With the start of classes, and with a large number of students moving around campus, please be sure to walk safely. It is very important that all students are using the sidewalks and the crosswalks; this includes the new sidewalk put in parallel to the Campus Store and Campus Police.
Thank you and have a great rest of your week.
