Given that public awareness of films is at an all-time high with the Oscars right on our tail, a lot of movie news has broken.
The first picture of Jason Momoa as Aquaman from the upcoming Batman v. Superman was released and portrays Aquaman as a Poseidon-like figure rather than the lame wetsuit wearing figure portrayed in the classic comics.
Also in comic book movie news, Drew Goddard, originally slated to direct Sinister 6 before that cinematic universe was cancelled, is now being eyed to direct Marvel studio’s Spiderman film in 2017.
Some of the cast of Independence Day 2 was announced, with Jeff Goldblum confirmed to return and Liam Hemsworth of the Hunger Games films set to star. Notable is the lack of Will Smith, due to a controversy regarding pay rates. While actors are making a living, it is a shame that a millionaire won’t return to a franchise that started his career over a matter of a couple million bucks.
Will Smith was part of the charm that made Independence Day so fun. Yet his recent career choices have been increasingly egocentric and nepotistic to advance the career of his son, Jaden Smith.
Independence Day Forever Part 1 is set to come out June 24, 2016.
Lastly, it has been confirmed that Toy Story 4 will not continue the Buzz and Woody storyline but will rather be a completely new storyline. This announcement came as a relief to many fans, as the Toy Story series is considered to be a perfect story arc with a perfect ending, which was nominated for Best Picture, by the way.
Now Pixar can let their creative reigns free, and hopefully their genius creative story telling can take the film anywhere. A film set in the 1800s with Victorian era toys could be interesting. Or maybe the film will be set in the far future with futuristic toys coming to life. Toy Story 4 will come out June 16, 2017.
